Game Recap

Holland High won the Division 2 State Championship by defeating East Lansing 3-0. After a tight, scoreless first half, Holland came out shooting in the second half. Just four minutes into the second half, Landyn Beal dribbled down the center of the field and slotted a ball to Daniel Arellano who tucked it into the net. Just three minutes later, Sam Accardo hit a ball across the goal mouth after drawing out the keeper, and Jose Penaloza tapped in the easy one-touch. Finally, Daniel Arellano assisted Sam Accardo to cap the scoring. Goalkeeper Peter Keegin and the defensive line of Jesus “Chuy” Morales, Jr., Brandon Ballesteros, Michael Saldana, and Ryan Elenbaas earned their school record 12th shut-out of the season. “The win was great,” said Holland soccer coach Greg Ceithaml. “I am very happy for these guys. They’ve worked hard for their entire high school career, and now, they have a memory of a life-time. I hope they understand how much I appreciate being a part of such a great group of student-athletes.” Holland finished their season 19-5-2.
