Dutch News · Holland qualifies Medley Relay for State, Tinney advances to Regionals


In their OK Rainbow Conference Meet, The Holland Varsity Boys Swim and Dive Team performed at the top of their game.

Starting out Friday afternoon at The Zeeland Natatorium, Senior, Garret Tinney placed 6th overall in Diving to advance to Regionals.

On Saturday, The Medley Relay Team of Junior, Isaac Jekel (backstroke) Sophomores, Simon VanHuis (breaststroke) and James Baer (butterfly) and Freshman, Emmett Book (freestyle) sprinted their way for a Division II State Cut with a time of 1:42.97.

Jekel went on to place 4th in the 200 Individual Medley and 7th in the 100 Back. VanHuis placed 9th in the 100 Free and 7th in the 100 Breast. Baer placed 2nd in the 50 Free and 3rd in the 100 Fly. Book took 14th in the 100 Breast.

Junior, Hans Evenson took 12th in the 200 Free and 9th in the 500 Free. Senior, Steve Nguyen placed 13th in the 100 Fly. Sophomore, Trent Burgess took 14th in the 200 Free and in the 100 Free, also scoring for the sophomores was Brandon Kelch, who brought in a 16th place finish in the 200 IM. Freshman, Elliot Wehrmeyer placed 16th in the 100 Free and 15th in the 100 Back.

Every member of the Holland team had a personal best for nearly every event.
