The Lady Dutch traveled to Helder Park to compete in the OK Green Conference Championship meet hosted by Zeeland West on October 18. The Lady Dutch were lead by Shayna Altvater,20:05.32, good for sixth place and a spot on the all conference team for a second straight year. Jordyn Elders,20:46.53, finished second for Holland and 13th overall. Elders was Honorable Mention All Conference. Abby Book,21:39.86 was 20th overall and third for the Lady Dutch. Abby improved by almost 40 seconds and 18 places compared to 2016, nice work Abby. Finishing fourth for Holland was Olivia DeGraaf, 22:08 good for 28th place overall. Senior Allie Riley, 22:44.29, running in hr fail meet at Holland was the fifth scorer for the Lady Dutch and 38th place overall. The Lady Dutch finished fourth in the Conference Championship and paired with the results from the dual meet portion of the season the LAdy Dutch finished fourth overall for the season. Meet Recap

The Holland Dutch competed in the OK Green Conference meet hosted by Zeeland West at Helder Park on October 18. The Dutch were lead by Sam Martens,16:10.25, repeating as the OK Green individual championship. Nick Hoffman, 16:44.05, finished second for Holland and fourth overall. Finishing third for Holland and 13th overall was Brad Carter,17:32.85. Martens and Hoffman were named all conference and Carter was honorable mention all conference. Alberto Castillo, 18:03.57, was the fourth finisher for Holland and 22nd overall. Jaeger Schippa,18:23.68, was the fifth scorer for Holland and 30th overall. The Dutch finished third at the conference meet yet still achieved a three way tie for first in the season long overall standings by virtue of winning the dual meet portion of the season 6-0. The Dutch will travel to Portage West Middle School on October 28th for the MHSAA Regional finals.

Zeeland High School beat Holland High School 102-81 in Varsity girls swimming and diving.
Holland had two new individual state qualifiers, Abby Mendels in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.97, and Anika Wehrmeyer in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.01. Holland won the 200 Medley relay with a team of Wehrmeyer, Evelyn VanderVelde, Tessa Conner and Sage Gettings. Gettings won the 100 butterfly and was a member of the winning 200 Free relay teaming with Mendels, Conner, and Lily Rector. Wehrmeyer won the 100 backstroke.

The Holland Men’s soccer team defeated Byron Center at home in the first round of the state district tournament 3-1 on Tuesday night. Daniel Arellano scored two goals, Jose Penaloza had one goal, and Michael Saldana and Caleb Steeby recorded assists. “I thought we played well but Byron Center played good defense, limiting our chances to score,” said Holland coach Greg Ceithaml. “I am happy to win and advance. We face Allendale on Thursday night at Holland Christian at 7:00 pm. Holland is now 13-5-2.

Holland volleyball traveled to Thornapple Kellogg today for a tournament. They played hard all day and finished strong.
The first match was between Holland and TK. TK won 25-15 and 25-17
The second match was between Holland and Tri Country. Holland won 25-23 and 25-22
The third match was between Holland and Hesperia. Holland won 25-19 and 25-22
The forth match was between Holland and Niles. Niles won 25-16 and 25-15

The final match was between Holland and kenowa hills. Holland won 25-12 and 25-13.
Leading the Dutch on offense was Kathleen Fitch with 7 aces, Sophie VanDyke with 33 kills, Megan Postma with 24 kills, and Saydee Johns with 69 assists.

In the final game of the regular season, Holland lost to Western Michigan Christian 3-0. “West Michigan Christian is a very athletic, well-coached team,” said Holland coach Greg Ceithaml. “We are disappointed with the result, but it was a great test before we start the state tournament next week.” Holland ends its regular season 12-5-2. Holland will host Byron Center on Tuesday, October 17 at 6:00.

Meet Recap

Holland hosted the MHSAA Regional on Thursday. It was a full day of tennis as play began at 9am and concluded at 5pm. Grandville finished in first place followed by Hudsonville. Both schools will advance to the Division 1 state tournament. Also qualifying for state were Reed Crocker of Loy Norrix and Noah Bachmann of Grand Haven. Crocker defeated Bachmann in the #1 singles championship match. Holland finished the day in 9th place, led by the #2 doubles team of Ezra Jarzembowski and Will Ash, and Elijah Babinski and Jaden Grigg at #3 doubles. “This is an incredibly tough regional and we can be proud of the way we competed throughout the day,” said Holland coach Kyle Kreps. “Obviously, we would have liked to win a few more matches, but I am excited with the direction we are headed. We made great progress throughout the season and I’m very proud of my guys. They were a great group to coach.”

Holland high volleyball hosted Zeeland East night and lost. The first game was 25-20, 25-12 and 25-8. Leading the Dutch on defense was Saydee Johns with 16 digs and Ashton Maloney with 12 digs. Kim Mister and Madi Hop both had 4 blocks tonight. Saydee Johns had 11 assists and Sophie VanDyke led the team with 6 kills. It was a whole team effort tonight, we will continue building, learning, and working together.
