The Holland Dutch tennis team had a strong showing at the Allegan Invitational on Saturday. In a loaded tournament field, with three teams that finished top five in their respective state tournaments a year ago (with Detroit Country Day winning D3), the Dutch took 5th place. Holland was led by the #4 doubles team of Emily Derr & Delaney Lynch who took third place, the #3 doubles team of Mary Boniface & Abby Mendels who took 4th place, and then Lena Engle (#2 singles) and Annika Williams & Diana Cardenas (#1 doubles) who won the back draw in their respective flights. “Competing against a defending state champion, two other teams that finished in the top five at state, and the defending OK Green conference champion (Zeeland East), I thought we had a very solid day,” said Holland coach Kyle Kreps. “As a team we talked about playing with more energy and the girls responded as the day went on. We will build on our success from today and use it to progress throughout the season”. Holland will head to Zeeland West on Monday for a conference dual match.
